Amid soaring temperature, weatherman sounds alert for flash floods in J&K | KNO

Srinagar, Jul 17 (KNO): As the temperature continued to soar across the Valley, the weatherman here has sounded alert by issuing advisory regarding flash floods in Jammu and Kashmir in wake of the fresh wet spell, expected to start from July 18. Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Director Meteorological department, Sonum Lotus said that there is a possibility of heavy rainfall from July 19 to 21. He added that a detailed weather advisory has been issued by the MeT department in advance so that the authorities and general public remain alert and are not caught unaware. The weather warning issued by the Meteorological department here reads that lower and middle level tropospheric winds from north Arabian sea are most likely to interact with Easterly Winds (from Bay of Bengal) from 18 to 21" July. “The system is most likely to cause widespread Heavy to Very Heavy Rain, Thunder with lightning at most places of Jammu mainly in Pirpanjal Range and plains of Jammu division from 19th to 218 and Moderate to Heavy Rain/ Thunder with lightning in many places of Kashmir division during the said period,” it said. Probable impacts due to fresh wet spell include moderate to High risk of flash flood in J&K, temporary disruption of surface traffic mainly on Jammu-Srinagar, Srinagar-Leh, Doda-Kishtwar, Mughal Road from 19th to 21" July 2021, landslides and shooting stones at vulnerable places, water logging and minor floods over low lying areas and suspension of agricultural and horticultural operations during above period, it added. Meanwhile, the temperature continued to soar across the Valley. In Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, the maximum temperature settled at 34.1 degree Celsius. North Kashmir’s Kupwara district was hottest in Kashmir where 34.2 degree Celsius temperature was recorded on Saturday—(KNO)
